Belleville is the name of the vibrant Paris neighbourhood where the designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have their studio. Visual references for the Belleville Chair can be found in the classic French bistro furnishings and lively atmosphere of this Parisian quarter. The chair's familiar shape - even in a contemporary context - might at first be taken for granted, yet it also evokes a sense of mystery and bemusement, since the materiality, construction and fabrication of the chair only become apparent at second glance.

The Belleville Armchair is a technically sophisticated chair consisting of two components - a structural frame and a moulded plywood veneer seat shell. Tracing the calligraphic lines of the legs and back, the slender frame supports a thin shell that tapers from the wide seat surface into a narrow backrest with forward slanting armrests.

  • Composition
Base and frame: polymide. Seat shell: Plywood
  • Care
Clean with a soft damp cloth and water only. Do not use chemical cleaners on any surfaces. Avoid leaving water sitting on the wood as this can cause small spots and permanent marks - wipe immediately with a dry cloth. Wipe the lacquered surface using straight strokes not in a circular direction. After wiping the area use a dry cloth to remove any moisture left on the surface. General care: We do not recommend placing your furniture in direct sunlight or near sources of heat. This is due to the natural characteristics of wood as it expands and contracts with changes in humidity. Placing your furniture in these environments may cause the timber to dry out; shrink and crack. Do not place hot or sharp objects on the surface of the wood as this can cause irreparable damage. Also avoid using any harsh solvents such as nail polish remover/alcohol at all times
